Most of us can’t imagine what it was like nursing in a cardiac ward before the development of routine bypass surgeries and other life-saving cardiac procedures.

Nurses should be doing hourly rounds without having to be told to. Nurses should be probing to find out if patients have pain that can’t be seen on the surface.

When I began working as a nurse, my first few attempts at getting a thorough nursing history were quite interesting. Little did I know that I would be expected to get all this information in the ER.
