At MDNG I’m always getting teased for all of the traveling I do, especially when I was set to go to Belize only a couple weeks after I started working here. Anytime I take time off of work it’s always, “Have fun in Zimbabwe” or something similar. I love to travel. It’s one of my biggest passions in life, for which I give most of the credit to my parents. They taught me the importance of being open minded and respectful toward different cultures around the world by taking me on vacations outside of the US and encouraging me to explore the world on my own. In this blog I will merge my work in healthcare with my love for traveling.

I wrote articles on healthcare tourism and transplant tourism for MDNG in the past, and by doing so I became not only fascinated with what is happening around the world in general, but what is happening around the world in relation to healthcare. There is one topic that is generating a lot of press lately, especially in the US, universal healthcare.

Every country has its own healthcare system set up for its citizens, with many turning to universal healthcare (a topic I will focus on every so often). This is something the Democrats have been working to implement for awhile now, but have failed to establish with a Republican in the White House with the authority to veto proposed bills. As the November elections are fast approaching, there may be a chance this coverage may come to fruition should the Democratic nominee win over John McCain. Many European countries such as the UK, France, and Germany have embraced universal healthcare and it works for them. But, will universal healthcare work in the US? This is an important topic that all healthcare professionals need to consider since it will affect the way they practice medicine.
